My story
I’m not quite sure how my life began as all I remember is being out in the blazing heat on a rooftop terrace! I don’t know how long I was there for but I began to meow as it was pretty toasty up there. Before long, I heard voices and meowed even harder to try to get their attention. I was lying between pallets so I wasn’t the easiest to spot. My eyes were still closed so I couldn’t see them but I could hear them trying to find me. Suddenly, I felt myself being scooped up and taken out of the heat and into a nice cool house. I could hear lots of voices, some sounded like young children, and I was treated to lots of cuddles and milk.
A couple of days later, I began to open my eyes and saw lots of funny shapes, little ones, big ones, one very tall one, and I realised I had been saved by a very nice family. The day before, I had overheard the big ones discussing what to do with me as they were here on holiday and had to find a home for me. I also realised I am bilingual as I could understand both Italian and English as I heard them desperately ringing every association and voluntary organisation in the area to find a place for me. They were having no luck – everywhere was full and nobody could help. Really? I’m only small and on my own. I don’t know what happened to my mum or if I have any siblings but I did know that if I was left there, I would die. Luckily, my family had some luck with some people who were not from the area but were willing to try to help. I could hear all kinds of interesting information about how many cats and dogs they already had, most of whom had been dumped or had found themselves alone in the world, like me.
So on Tuesday 9 July, not only did I open my eyes, but I started the next chapter of my already busy life. I spent a lovely last day with my special family, who I learned were Karina, Marcus (the very tall one), Thea, Leonie and Isla (the little ones), and I will forever be grateful to them for rescuing me. Onwards to something called the Twiglet and Crew Sanctuary!
Life today
So far, so good! I am enjoying my new life and have met lots and lots of fellow furry creatures, one rather excitable one – known as Dog, but real name Leia – quickly became my personal bodyguard. I heard she had done the same for a litter of kittens born here last year, known as the Bandits, and had been a particularly good friend to Opus and Twiglet. Merlot (one of the Bandits) has taken a shine to me and gives me a good wash every day. That’s very kind of him as I don’t have a mum to do that for me.
My future
My life has only just begun but I think I’m going to have lots of fun here. There are so many new faces to get to know, so I have my work cut out. I can’t wait!
